Artist Statement
Before there were words, humans, or breathing life on the earth, there was the fierce majesty of water.
I am drawn to that majesty, and to the living beauty within it: ethereal, violent, serene, radiant blue, translucent green, dull grey when the sky itself is without hope.
Beyond the reach of logic or thought, water has had a hold on me since I was a young boy growing up on a great lake, a short drive from the immensity and power of Niagara: ceaseless, hypnotic, inexplicably tranquil.
I make pictures because my life has been about learning to see in the most basic way, the way children see, which, for complex reasons, was denied me.
And of all the things there are to see in this enchanted, disquieting world, nothing captivates me more than water: light manifesting as liquid, the restless soul of the universe.
